The Importance of Air Conditioning
We asked our Citroen/Peugeot Consultant Technician Bryan Foster why a vehicle's air conditioning is so important.
"Most people think they only need to use their air conditioning during the summer to keep cool, most people wouldn't even think of using it during the winter"
Should you use your air conditioning during the winter...
"Of course... your air conditioning is just as important during the winter as it is during the summer. It will de-mist the vehicle quicker and also warm the vehicle up at a much faster rate to conventional heating"
Does anything happen over the winter if you don't use your air conditioning...
"Yes, not using the air conditioning regularly can result in premature failure, the system is designed to circulate refrigerant gas, also in this gas is a lubricating agent which keeps all the rubber seals between the interconnecting pipes lubricated and prevents leaks from the joints. If an air conditioning system is not regularly maintained the rubber seals perish and gas escapes resulting in the air conditioning not cooling or heating"
What costs are involved if the air conditioning systems fails and can this be prevented...
"A failed air conditioning system can cost in excess of £1,000 for a single component, annual air conditioning servicing from as little as £60 can prevent failure, the old gas is removed and replaced with new and more importantly, new lubricating agent is added to the system. This can save hundreds if not thousands of pounds and also during an air conditioning service and underlying issues can be rectified to prolong it's efficiency"
And your last words...
"keep cool in the heat, keep warm in the cold... and keep it maintained"
